Klopp Unhappy As Southampton Force Liverpool To Third Straight Draw

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp was left unhappy after a late Saido Mane goal on Sunday prevented the German from getting his first win as the Reds boss.

Mane cancelled out Christian Benteke’s opener on the 86th minute to hand Klopp his third straight draw.

“Of course this moment is not the best moment in the week because we wasted a lot of energy,” Klopp said during his post-match interview.

“Southampton haven’t lost away from home so we had to work hard. You score the goal and you want to win, but it didn’t happen tonight.

“Football is not a fairytale. Sometimes we write stories like this but it doesn’t happen. You see these guys can play football, are technically strong and physically strong but you saw how big the disappointment after Southampton was.

“It’s only a goal, only a game of football! It’s like it’s the last thing in your life and we have to calm this down.”
The Reds, who were held to a 1-1 draw against Rubin Kazan in midweek, went close to taking an early lead when Cedric Soares produced a last-ditch block to deny Philippe Coutinho.
Emre Can then narrowly missed the target with an intricate flick from James Milner’s corner as Liverpool tried to avoid an eighth draw in nine games.
After Graziano Pelle’s drilled shot was blocked by the outstretched foot of Martin Skrtel, the Reds almost gifted the Saints the lead as Mahmadou Sakho’s misplaced header presented a chance to Steven Davis, but his meak effort rolled into the grasp of Simon Mignolet.
Milner tried to engineer an opening for the hosts later in the first half as he dribbled his way into the Southampton area before unleashing a shot, which drifted narrowly wide.
