Klopp Urges Liverpool Youth Players To Emulate Ejaria

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has advised the club's youth players currently in a training camp in Tenerife in Spain to seize the opportunity just like Nigerian forward Ovie Ejaria did last year, Completesportsnigeria.com reports.‎

Ejaria, 19,  who is currently sidelined through injury,  caught the attention of Klopp with his impressive displays when Liverpool visited the island on a similar trip a year ago.

Ejaria’s efforts last March earned him a first-team debut for the Reds earlier this season and seven more senior appearances subsequently.

And Klopp reminded the U-18s and U-23s who have been given the opportunity to impress in Tenerife of that fact before work got under way this time around.

“I told the boys before the session [on Tuesday] that last year, Ovie Ejaria came onto my plate, if you want," Klopp told Liverpoolfc.com.

“I saw him here first. I knew him, I saw him playing a few times, but here having him around for four days and seeing him in small spaces in the sessions against the ‘adults’ if you want, was very important for him and for me.

“It’s an opportunity. You can see in their eyes they know it; they are really ambitious when they think about the sessions and we will try to do everything we can to give them the opportunity to impress.

“There’s no doubt about the attitude, there’s no doubt about quality – it’s only a question of are they already ready or not? If not, then they still have time. If yes, then let’s make the next step.”

Ejaria is eligible to represent England or Nigeria internationally. He trained with the the Golden Eaglets in 2013 and stated in 2014 that his international allegiance was with Nigeria.

He currently plays for England's U-20s after making his debut for the junior Three Lions in 2016 in a 3-1 win against Germany.
