National boxing coach, Tony Konyegwachi, has stated that Nigeria's only representative in the boxing event at the Rio Olympics ,Efe Ajagba, is not under pressure to perform.
Nigeria's hope of parading three boxers in Rio was dashed after the duo of Umar Sadiq and Efetobore Apochi, crashed out at the on-going AIBA World Boxing Qualification Event in Baku, Azerbaijan.
Sadiq lost out in his second fight in the preliminaries, while Apochi was defeated in the quarter-finals.
In a chat with Completesportsnigeria.com, Konyegwachi expressed optimism that Ajagba will pick a medal.
"Ajagba is ok, he is doing well and his training is going as planned. He is not under pressure being our sole representative in boxing at the Olympics.
"Hopefully, he will do us proud, and by the grace of God, he will win us a medal," Konyegwachi said.
He went on to praise Sadiq and Apochi for their performances at the AIBA Olympic qualifiers.
"They (Umar Sadiq, Efetobore Apochi) tried, at least one of them got to the quarter-finals, winning two fights and losing one."
