Both Real and Atlético will look to cut the gap at the top of the table after stunning Barça showing
Last season, domestically at least, it was all about Barcelona. The Catalan giants won the La Liga crown by an enormous 14 points and lost just one game all season – their very last fixture of the campaign and, by that stage, meaningless.
Their main rivals for the league title remain the two clubs from the Spanish capital. Atlético are the only club to break the Barça-Real duopoly in recent times, while Real made history last My by winning their third successive Champions League trophy.
First things first

Where should I be investing my money?
Barcelona will take some catching. They won 28 games last season, lost just one and came a goal short of reaching the 100 mark, scoring at comfortably over 2.5 goals per game.
It is therefore no surprise that it is the defending champions who come in as the favourites to take the domestic crown once again. You can back Barcelona to be crowned L Liga champions at a price of just 1.75, according to Oddsshark.
Ernesto Valverde and his side start their title defence at home to Alaves, who could only muster a 14th place finish last term. Barça are at just 1.10 to make a winning start to the campaign, with Alaves all the way out at 17.00 to pick up three points at Camp Nou.
Hot on their coat tails, however, will be Real Madrid. The Galacticos have now won the last three editions of the UEFA Champions League, a feat which is unprecedented in the modern era, and if they can translate that continental form onto the domestic stage then Barcelona and their reign of supremacy may well be coming to an abrupt end.
Real, however, could be something of an unknown entity themselves this season. For the first time in nine seasons they will be without Cristiano Ronaldo leading the line, and it will be a huge hold that needs filling.
You could more than double your money however if you believe that Real can wrest the title away from their Catalan rivals. The Madrid club are at 2.50 to be crowned La Liga champions come the end of the campaign.
Like Barça, Real will also kick off their season at home. The European champions host Getafe, who finished a respectable eighth place last season but should not offer too many problems for Real.
The some side are at just 1.20 to take the points, with Getafe out at 13.00. A comprehensive 3-0 win for Real is priced at 7.00, meaning that a US$5 bet would lead to a US$35 pay out.
However, if there is any club who can break the stranglehold that Barcelona and Real usually enjoy over the La Liga, then it is Atlético Madrid. Diego Simeone’s side of course managed to win the league crown back in 2014, but are at longer odds to do so again in the wake of new strengthening from their two big rivals.
Atlético are way out at 11.00 to win the league crown this season and it will be an uphill struggle for them to overcome two superpowers. With that said, Atlético did manage to finish second last season, three points ahead of city rivals Real.
Atlético won more games than Real last term and the key to their consistency was their defensive solidity. Simeon’s men conceded just 22 goals at a shade over 0.5 goals per game.
Where they let themselves down, however, was in front of goal. Atlético only managed to find the back of the net on 58 occasions, at just over 1.5 goals per game – that kind of ratio simply is not good enough if you have serious aspirations of winning the league.
For that reason, you may think it more profitable to bet on Atlético finishing in the top four, which they are just 1.20 to do so. It is also possible to bet on a league table which does not take Barcelona or Real Madrid into account – Atlético, at a price of just 1.57, are the favourites to finish top of the 18 other teams in the league.
Odds to win La Liga:
Real Madrid (2.50)
Atlético Madrid (11.00)
