La Liga Round 2 Preview: Barcelona Look To Build Up Momentum At Valladolid

La Liga Round 2 Preview: Barcelona Look To Build Up Momentum At Valladolid

Defending Spanish champions lost just one match last season and will gain want to exert their authority

While last season’s continental exploits for Barcelona were ultimately a disappointment, there is no denying that on the domestic front they did little wrong. No one could match the Catalans as they won the La Liga title by a 14 point margin, losing just one game along the way, and they have started the new campaign as they mean to go on.

Where should I be investing my money?

When it comes to La Liga, Barcelona are always a good place to start. The champions travel to take on newly promoted Real Valladolid this coming Saturday (25 August) and there are unlikely to be too many surprises for them – having beaten Alaves 3-0 on home soil last week, another authoritative performance from Barça is expected here.

Barcelona are the outright favourites to retain their La Liga crown and they come into this game as the favourites to maintain their 100 per cent start to the season. The visitors are at just 1.16 to take the points with home side Valladolid – who defeated Barça in the last meeting between the two teams back in the 2013/14 season – at 17.00 to repeat the feat, according to the Oddsshark site.

Having been promoted last May, Valladolid held Girona to a goalless draw in their curtain riser but there should be goals in this one. The problem for the home side is that they are likely to be scored by their opponents.

A 3-0 win for Barcelona, as they managed against Alaves last week, is priced at 7.00. In addition, you can back over 2.5 goals in the match at just 1.40.

Sevilla are the (very early) league leaders

Over at the Ramon Sanchez Pizjuan, early league leaders Sevilla welcome Villarreal this Sunday. The side currently sit atop the pile (although only one game has been played) after thrashing Rayo Vallecano 4-1 in their league opener.

This will be Sevilla’s seventh game of the season, having already played in the Spanish Super Cup and the Europa League qualifiers. It has allowed them to start the season on the front foot while Villarreal made a stuttering start last week.

The Yellow Submarine lost 2-1 at home to Real Sociedad and must now look for their first points of the campaign against a side far further ahead in their preparations. This game ended 2-2 last season and there should be goals in this clash as well.

Sevilla are the favourites to make it two wins from two at a price of 1.72. Villarreal, by way of comparison, are out at 4.33 to pick up a much-neededwin to kick start their own domestic campaign.

Sevilla looked very impressive last week against Rayo, and a 3-1 win for them here is priced at 13.00, thereby offering more than a ten-fold return on any investment. Striker Andre Silva, who scored a hat-trick against Rayo Vallecano, is at 2.05 to get on the score sheet here, while you can back him at 4.33 to bag either the first or last goal of the game.

Real Madrid need to stay close to Barça

Real Madrid’s biggest mistake last season was allowing Barcelona to build an insurmountable head start in the league. New coach JulenLopetegui will not want to make the same mistake as predecessor Zinedine Zidane and will be looking for all three points when he takes Los Blancos to Girona on Sunday.

Girona pulled off a surprise win over Real last season but are unlikely to do so again here. The visitors are the overwhelming favourites, at 1.36, to make it two wins in as many games to kick off the new season.

Girona, meanwhile, are out at 8.00 to beat Real again, with a draw priced in the middle at 5.50. Even that may be too much for the home side, however, with a 2-1 win for Real – the score line Girona won by last season – priced competitively at 8.50, meaning that a US$5 bet would lead to a US$42.50 pay out.

Over 2.5 goals is priced at just 1.50, with both teams to score only slightly higher at 1.75. You can back Real to be ahead at both the interval and the full time whistle at 1.95.
