Ladipo Tasks NFF On Free, Fair Elections

President of Nigeria Football Supporters Club, Dr Rafiu Ladipo has called on the Electoral Committee of the Nigeria Football Federation to ensure that Tuesday’s election is free and fair in the interest of the country’s image.

The business tycoon who is also a stakeholder in the round leather game told Complete Sports in Lagos yesterday that free and fair elections will go a long way in determining how the game will flourish in the years ahead after the crisis that rocked the Glass House shortly after the 2014 FIFA World Cup in Brazil.

He also pleaded that all the candidates that will be willing to contest should be given equal chance without preference to any candidate irrespective of his or her position or connection.

“As a stakeholder in the football business in Nigeria, I want to plead with the NFF Electoral Committee to ensure that Tuesday’s election is free and fair without preference to any candidate.

“This election will go a long way in determining the image we want to create before the international community particularly FIFA and to also fulfil the promise of President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan that elections in Nigeria at all levels will be free and fair”, says the Lagos based businessman.

“We all know that for any election to be free and fair, all contestants should be given equal chance to contest without any preference to anybody.

“The election will be decided by the congress and they should be allowed to decide that”, he added.

“All the unbanned candidates should be embraced and seen as members of the family. Football is a factor of unity and peace must be allowed to reign in the game.”

It would be recalled that the out-going board of the NFF led by Alhaji Aminu Maigari went through series of crisis shortly after the Les Bleus of France defeated the Super Eagles 2-0 in the second round of the 2014 FIFA World Cup in Brazil.

Meanwhile, the election to usher in new board into the football house is expected to hold in Abuja tomorrow.
