Marco Silva says a “lack of focus” cost Everton all three points at home to Newcastle United on Wednesday night. Everton dominated possession throughout the contest at Goodison Park, but they lacked the cutting edge in the final third that was needed to record a fifth straight home win in the Premier League.

It was, in fact, Newcastle who opened the scoring in the 19th minute, with Venezuela international Salomon Rondon finishing off Jacob Murphy’s cross after a quick counter-attack from the visitors.
Richarlison levelled the scores on the 38th minute before Cenk Tosun was denied in first-half stoppage time from inside the six-yard box by a brilliant save from Martin Dubravka.
The Toffees struggled to create after the break and had to settle for a point that was enough to lift the club to sixth in the table, eight points adrift of fifth-place Arsenal.
Speaking about Everton’s performance, Silva told BBC Sport: “It was a difficult match like we expected. We had a better first half and we created better chances, but we showed a lack of focus in the goal we conceded.
“We reacted well and had clear chances which could have changed the match. We knew what they came here to do which was to wait for our mistake.
I think the stats suggest we controlled the match. “To break their organisation you have to play faster and we didn’t do that in the second half. We take it game by game and our mentality is to win and do what we can.”Fastest Paying Betting Site in Nigeria: Grab your 140% First Time Deposit Bonus Now — www.Sportybet.Com Copyright © 2021 Completesports.com All rights reserved.
