Late 1985 Eaglet’s Mother Praises Buhari For Team’s Planned Reception

By Richard Jideaka, Abuja:

Ahead of the planned reception for 1985 and 2015 sets of FIFA U-17 World Cup-winning Golden Eaglets, the mother of deceased member of the '85 squad Kingsley Akhionbare, Cecilia, met with the President of the Nigeria Football Federation Amaju Pinnick on Monday evening.

The mother of the late defender said she would continue to pray for President Muhammadu Buhari for remembering and deciding to honour the team 30 years after they won the World Cup, adding that God will contInue to bless and guide him for his kindness.

The 74-year-old Mrs Aikhionbare said she was compelled to come to Abuja to let the NFF know that her son Kingsley who played in the 1985 Golden Eaglets died in 1996 and that she is the next of kin to the deceased and would like to grace the reception scheduled for Sunday in Abuja.

"Kingsley had children but he was never married. His daughter in Benin City also has a child and we see very often. It is unfortunate that Kingsley died very young, leaving me to suffer but I thank God we are still alive," Mrs Akhihonbare told Complete Sports.

She revealed that her meeting with the NFF boss was to leave information about Kingsley's family and how they can reach them any time they need the family.

Meanwhile, Victor Igbinoba who scored the second goal in the 2-0 win over Germany in the 1985 final, has arrived in Benin City in anticipation of the reception by President Buhari.
