Leicester Boss Defends Iheanacho Substitution In Arsenal Defeat

By David Meshioye:
Leicester City manager Craig Shakespeare has defended his decision to bring on Nigeria striker Kelechi Iheanacho during Friday night’s Premier League defeat to Arsenal at the Emirates.

Leicester were leading 3-2 when Shakespeare withdrew central midfielder Matty James for new £25m signing Iheanacho and Arsenal scored two late goals to win 4-3.

But Shakespeare insists that the move did not cause his side’s late collapse.

“I wanted to bring him on and to get in and around Granit Xhaka because I thought he was having a major influence on the game,” Shakespeare to Leicester Mercury.

“You try to make substitutions and it never really cost us the game in terms of that because they scored from two set plays.”
Shinji Okazaki and Jamie Vardy scored Leicester’s goals, while Alexandre Lacazette, Danny Welbeck, Aaron Ramsey and Olivier Giroud netted for Arsenal in a dramatic opening day clash.
