Newcastle United defender Florian Lejeune could be available for selection just in time for the busy festive period. The former France Under-20 international, who arrived at St James’ Park from Eibar in the summer of 2017, suffered an ACL knee injury during pre-season and has been recovering ever since.

It was thought the 27-year-old would be out for the majority of the season but a recent update from manager Rafael Benitez suggested the defender is set for an early comeback.
He said at a press conference: “Lejeune is still not available, but he has done a full training session with the team. He is getting closer.”
Lejeune’s potential early return would come at the perfect time for the Magpies, who are looking to extend their three-game unbeaten run at Burnley on Monday, as the busy festive period is just around the corner.
