Tom Lewis has taken his first European Tour victory since 2011 with a three shot win in the Portugal Masters. Lewis trailed Australian Lucas Herbert by two shots overnight, but managed to make a brilliant recovery to the top of the leaderboard after shooting a five-under par round of 66 at Vilamoura.
He posted four birdies on the front nine at the Dom Pedro Victoria Golf Course to lay down a marker to his challengers.
Trouble came on the 17th however, when he tee shot was water bund, but he recovered to make a brilliant 30ft par putt.
Herbert’s shot into the water on the 18th allowed Lewis to breathe easily on the final hole to take his first win on the European Tour since the very same event in 2011, and the 27-year-old could not hide his joy.
“It is unbelievable, I am so happy. It has been a rough ride,” Lewis told Sky Sports after securing a two-year exemption on the European Tour.
Herbert had to settle for a tie in second with Eddie Pepperall, while Ryder Cup-bound pair Sergio Garcia and Thorbjorn Olesen finished tied for 7th and 20th respectively.Fastest Paying Betting Site in Nigeria: Grab your 140% First Time Deposit Bonus Now — www.Sportybet.Com Copyright © 2021 Completesports.com All rights reserved.
