Lille Release Enyeama After 7 Years

By Johnny Edward:

French Ligue 1 side, Lille have confirmed that they have reached a mutual termination agreement with former Nigeria goalkeeper, Vincent Enyeama, two days after he celebrated his 36th birthday, Completesportsnigeria.com reports.

Enyeama joined the Dogues in the summer of 2011 from Israeli side, Hapoel Tel-Aviv.

“Beyond his performances, LOSC and his supporters will remember Vincent’s smile and enthusiasm. The club now wishes him the best in his future projects,” Lille’s statement reads.

The 36 year old shot-stopper who missed the entire season last year recuperating from a meniscus injury he sustained in April 2017 is however free to join any club of his choice after spending seven years at the club.

Enyeama went 1,062 minutes without conceding a goal in the 2013-14 season. He also won the UNFP player of the month twice that season. He also kept an astonishing 21 clean sheets from 38 league games during the 2013/14 season.

The former Nigeria captain who made 164 appearances for Lille also confirmed his exit on Twitter with a note: “The End” beneathe a picture of himself.

  • Don’t know what is wrong with African players. What was he doing in that club all these days? you are not playing in fact the former coach even told you that you are not in his plan, so does he have to wait until they release him? There are countless goalkeeper of his age that are still playing active football with big club in top football countries. I think it is time for Africa footballers to wise up..

  • #tayo, so if you are Vincent Enyeama you would just walk away when you have not gotten a new club? Ok let me tell you what is done. Your agent will be looking for a suitable club that fits the amount of salary you are earning at your present club. This is all done secretly without the knowledge of the club. Meanwhile you are still receiving your salary and allowances. Sometimes they may send you out on loan or negotiate with another club to buy you. You may decide to move or not. If nothing happens either by loaning you out or outright sale, they can then and then sit with you to negotiate how much you will take to leave the club for good. You may decide to take the money and move or you can decide to see out the contract and move on as a free agent. As a free agent you get all the money negotiated. I think Vincent Enyeama signed a long contract and it will take some years to expire. This will pay the club well and Vincent will also be free.
