The League Management Company, organisers of the Nigerian Professional Football League, have resheduled the matchday 33 fixture involving Rivers United and Katsina United, earlier billed to hold on Sunday, to Monday, Completesportsnigeria.com reports.
In a letter signed by the Chief Operating Officer, Salihu Abubakar, the LMC said: "This is to inform you that matchdat 33 game between Rivers United and Katsina United earlier fixed for Sunday 6th August is hereby moved to Monday 7th August,2017. Please note for your information and necessary action."
Completesportsnigeria.com gathered that the LMC granted Rivers United an extra day to recover from the fatigue which they will suffer traveling to Port Harcourt after playing their outstanding game against Kano Pillars at the Sani Abacha stadium on Thursday.
"Rivers United were granted an extra day off because of the matchday 32 game against Rangers International which was completed on Monday due to the waterlogged pitch at the Nnamdi Azikiwe stadium in Enugu And also their trip from the Coal City to Kano is about two days by road," a top official in the LMC told Completesportsnigeria.com on Wednesday.
"The extra day will enable the players to recover for at least 24 hours before kick-off when the host Katsina United."
With six games to go in the NPFL, last seaso's runners-up Rivers United, who have a game in hand, are 16th in the NPFL table with 41 points from 31 games, one point adrift Katsina United in 14th position
