By Adeboye Amosu:
Warri Wolves were dealt a big blow in their bid to win a first Glo Premier League title as they suffered a 1-0 defeat to Lobi Stars on Thursday in Makurdi.
The Seasiders needed a response after Enyimba consolidated their hold on top of the log with a 1-0 win against Kwara United, and Giwa FC moved to second position following a hard fought 3-2 victory against Wikki Tourists on Wednesday.
Instead, they went down to a third minute Anthony Agbaji penalty.
Agbaji coolly slotted the ball home from the spot for his first goal of the season, after the centre referee spotted an infringement in the Wolves' box.
Warri Wolves who were without their top scorer, Gbolahan Salami, who is injured, struggled to carve out clear cut chances in the game.
They however had a goal disallowed two minutes from time when Oghenekaro Etebo's tap in from Ikechukwu Ibenegbu shot was chalked off for offside by the centre referee.
Paul Aigbogun's men who now sit in third position will host Bayelsa United at home on Sunday.
