Loftus-Cheek Set For Intensive Training

Loftus-Cheek Set For Intensive Training

Chelsea boss Maurizio Sarri says Ruben Loftus-Cheek will benefit from missing out on an England call up. Sarri made eight changes for the Vidi clash in the Europa Cup in midweek, with Loftus-Cheek making his first start of the season on the day he missed out on a place in the England squad.

Sarri reckons Loftus-Cheek, who played at the World Cup, will benefit from intensive training with Chelsea after recent injury issues, rather than joining up with England.

The Italian said: “I think in this moment for the player it’s better to stay in Cobham. At the moment for him it’s very important to have a lot of training.

“In the last three, four weeks, he hasn’t been training a lot. I think now it’s better for him to stay to work.”
Sarri sent on Eden Hazard against Vidi, with the game goalless, having rested the Belgium playmaker from the prior Europa League game at PAOK.

Sarri added: “I think that for Eden to play is a pleasure. So I think this case, for that kind of player, it’s better to play for 35, 40 minutes than to have training.”
