Lookman, Solanke Fire England Past Italy Into U-20 World Cup Final

Two players with Nigerian blood were the heroes for England on Thursday as they defeated Italy 3-1 in Jeonju, South Korea to reach their first ever FIFA U-20 World Cup final.

Liverpool-bound Dominic Solanke scored twice, while Everton’s Ademola Lookman added the other goal as England’s youngsters came from behind to stun Italy, who had beaten African champions Zambia in the quarter-finals. Another player with Nigerian blood, Chelsea’s Fikayo Tomori, led England’s defence in the seni-final clash.

England had fallen behind to a second-minute strike from Riccardo Orsolini, but Solanke netted either side of a Lookman goal to earn the Three Lions a deserved place in Sunday’s final, where they will play Venezuela.

Italy opened the scoring through Orsolini, who curled the ball into the bottom corner from 20 yards after being set up by Andrea Favilli.

Solanke came close to equalising for England before substitute Sheyi Ojo, another player with Nigerian heritage,  saw a half-volley deflected wide just 20 seconds after his introduction.

Solanke eventually got the equaliser before Lookman scored the go-ahead goal, all in the second half.
