French club Olympique Lyon have ended negotiations with Liverpool Over the sale of France attacking midfielder Nabil Fekir to the Premier League club.
Fekir, who is in France’s squad to the Russia 2018 World Cup, was poised to join Liverpool and even reportedly underwent a medical. But the deal has now been called off.
“Olympique Lyonnais announces that the tripartite negotiations Liverpool and Nabil Fekir for the transfer of the captain of OL have not succeeded and that Olympique Lyonnais has decided to put an end to this negotiation tonight,” Lyon stated on their official website on Saturday.
“Although Liverpool has been the priority of a possible transfer of Nabil, and subject to other proposals consistent with the interest of Nabil and OL and from ambitious clubs, Olympique Lyonnais is delighted to be able to count on the presence of its captain for the 2018/2019 season, during which the club will play the Champions League.”
Fekir, 24, was in superb form last season as Lyon reached the latter stages of the UEFA Europa League and finished third in Ligue 1. He scored 23 goals and bagged eight assists in 40 matches in all competitions.
