Lyon club president Jean Michel Aulas says hit team’s result versus Marseille on Sunday is more important than the Champions League. Lyon kick off their European campaign with a daunting trip to Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City on Wednesday evening as they look to progress through a difficult group that also includes Shakhtar Donetsk and Hoffenheim.
They finished last season in third behind the dominant champions PSG and Monaco, who finished two points ahead of Bruno Genesio’s men.
However, they are overwhelming underdogs for the City game and Aulas has conceded he is not overly interested in the result of the game and just wants to see a performance.
He has also commented that the league game against beaten 2017-18 Europa League finalists Marseille on Sunday is of much greater importance.
Aulas told French sports daily L’Equipe: “I don’t care about the result against Manchester City, I want to see character and attitude.
“The result against Marseille will depend on the quality we show against City. Marseille, of course [is the more important game], but everything is important when you have the ambition of Lyon.”Copyright © 2021 Completesports.com All rights reserved.
