The Three Lions of England qualified for the semi-finals of the 2018 FIFA World Cup in Russia with a 2-0 win over Sweden in Samara on Saturday.
A goal in each half from Harry Maguire and Dele Alli secured a semi-final berth for England at the FIFA World Cup for the first time since 1990.
The opening stages of the game was scrappy but England dominated possession, with the Swedes sitting deep and trying to spark counter-attacks where possible.
Raheem Sterling failed to take the first two scoring chances that he had in the opening stages of the game.
The Manchester City forward drove his first attempt straight into Robin Olsen in goal for Sweden in the 19th minute while he also missed a one-on-one chance with the Swedish keeper three minutes later.
Maguire opened scoring for England, heading in Ashley Young’s corner in the 30th minute.
It was Maguire’s first international goal for the Three Lions and England’s fourth goal via a header in the tournament.
Jordan Pickford who had been untested in the first half denied Sweden a good chance to restore parity when Marcus Berg’s shot was saved in the 47th minute.
Alli doubled his side’s lead on the hour mark heading in Jesse Lingard’s delightful cross from open play.
Sweden were unlucky not to have scored in the 71st minute when Berg was denied again by Pickford who tipped the forward’s goal strike for a corner.
England will face the winner of Russia and Croatia in the semi-finals in Moscow.Fastest Paying Betting Site in Nigeria: Grab your 140% First Time Deposit Bonus Now — www.Sportybet.Com Copyright © 2021 Completesports.com All rights reserved.
