Maigari: Only Due Process Can Help Our Football

–Former NFF boss explains stance

Former Nigeria Football Federation, NFF president Alhaji Aminu Maigari says he has no problem with who becomes boss at the Glass House but due process as stated in the NFF/FIFA Status must be followed.

Maigari, it would be recalled has been in the centre of the crisis rocking the football house in the recent time and the football administrator believes that only peaceful resolution and respect for the rules and regulations guiding the round leather game can make the game to progress in the country.

“I have said it several times that there are rules and regulations guiding this game and it must be followed, personally, I have no problem with who becomes the president but due process which is proper election according to the status must be followed,” says the former NFF boss.

“The congress sanctioned by FIFA has the final say and not me, whoever has what it takes to move the game forward should come out and convince the congress on the day the election will be held and that is my stand.

“Nigeria is my country and I will be glad seeing football in the country making progress, I have done my best and I believe Nigeria is bigger than any human being and the interest of the nation should be first.

Meanwhile, the Electoral Committee put in place shortly after the Maigari’s board was dissolved last week has fixed September 4 for the election as Giwa’s faction insisted that the election that brought into power remains.

The way out is very simple. President Goodluck Jonathan should call Danagogo and his boys (Chris Giwa and his so called board members) to order, to vacate the office before the close of business today, and participate in the credible election on September 4. The fact that the so called election did not have FIFA, CAF and WAFU representatives in attendance as stipulated by both FIFA and NFA statutes is an enough knockout of such kangaroo election. The justice minister (who has become the laughing stock of international community), Tamuno Danagogo did not play his card with wisdom and his machination has backfired, he needs to swallow shame and tow the line of justice – that is credible election. I don’t even know what to call Danagogo – Sport Minister or Football Minister. God will help us.
