The lingering crisis bedeviling the administration of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) was laid to rest on Friday with the minister of sports Dr. Tammy Danagogo’s pronouncement that Alhaji Aminu Maigari would return to office as the President of NFF on Monday.
Speaking with the media after a lengthy meeting with Aminu Maigari in his office at the National Stadium, the minister stated that peace has returned to football in the country and that he expects all those involved to work in harmony
“We have got the commitment of the NFF president and his board members to work without rancour. They have all resolved to work as a team peacefully and we expect the election to go ahead with more members who are qualified to contest,” he said
Asked if Maigari who was alleged to have resigned would be allowed to contest, Dr. Danagogo said: “it is Maigari’s decision to contest or not. I cannot determine that for him. If he emerges, I will work with him. If it is Umeh, Giwa or Ogunjobi that emerges, we would work with any of them.”
He said that the NSC acted not on FIFA threat but on the advise of stakeholders who met and took some decisions that was conveyed to the NSC, adding that his joy is that peace has returned to football
The minister then disclosed that Maigari would resume on Moay and that all the board members would also converge in the Glass House for a meeting to show the world that all is well again.
On the alleged resignation of Maigari, the minister said the man has the right to resign or not adding that he is also to decide whether to contest or not. “At the appropriate time, he would decide what to do.”
> Earlier, Maigari had told the media that the visit was to congratulate the minister on the successes of Nigerian teams at the Commonwealth games and the ongoing FIFA Under-20 Women world cup in Canada
> He expressed joy that peace has finally returned to NFF calling on stakeholders and well meaning Nigerians to support the executive to move the game forward.
> Maigari was accompanied on the visit by two board members namely Yusuf Fresh and Ahmed Kawu.
