Mali Coach Dares Golden Eaglets After Edging Out Belgium

The coach of the Malian U17 national side  Baye Ba insists he does not care which team he plays against in the final of the World Cup in Chile.

The West Africans came from a goal down to defeat Belgium 3-1 in the first semi-finals before Nigeria edged Mexico with a 4-2 triumph.

The Europeans had taken the lead through Dante Rigo, but Boubacar Traore's swift response was followed by second half goals from Sidiki Maiga and Sekou Koita.

In his team's post match conference thw Malian handler apparently insists he does not fear the Emmanuel Amuneke side.

"For the final, I do not care if it's Mexico or Nigeria. I just want to face a team that we can beat.

"We faced a very good team (Belgium) that has tired us.

"We conceded a quick opening goal, and we had to react quickly. It was very hard tactically and we ran a lot to get the win. We had a bad start in this game, which does not happen often to my players despite their young age ," Baye Ba told the media.

Belgium's coach, Bob Browaeys congratulated the Malian side for a good game.  

"I want to congratulate Mali for this victory. This is a very good team and I wish them all the best for the

"Belgium played a very good game and I am proud of my boys. We started the match well and the first half was balanced. What happened in the second half happens in football. I am very pleased with the progress of my players for this tournament,"  Browaeys stressed.

The third-place final on Sunday night will be between Mexico and Belgium before the all-African final involving African champions (Mali) and world champions (Nigeria).

Nigeria defeated Ghana 2-1 in the final of the FIFA U17 World Cup in 1993 in Japan in the first all- African final of the tournament.

Nigeria's goals were scored by Wilson Oruma and Peter Ikechukwu Anosike.
