Premier League run away league leaders Manchester City have been fined £50,000 by the Football Association for failing to control their players in the shock fifth-round Emirates FA Cup 1-0 defeat at Wigan Athletic.
Wigan stunned favourites City thanks to Will Grigg’s second half strike which ended any hope of a quadruple.
After final whistle, there were ugly scenes – including Sergio Aguero’s bust-up with a fan – which marred the miraculous win by the League One side.
In the first half of the game, Fabian Delph was sent off for a dangerous tackle on Max Power which led City players surrounding referee Anthony Taylor.
Delph’s dismissal led to Pep Guardiola and Wigan boss Paul Cook clashing on the sidelines and in the tunnel at the end of the first-half.
A statement on the FA website read: “Manchester City have been fined £50,000 after admitting a charge of failing to ensure that their players conducted themselves in an orderly fashion.
“The incident took place in their Emirates FA Cup tie against Wigan Athletic last month.”
City made up for their shock FA Cup exit by thrashing Arsenal 3-0 in the final of the Carabao Cup last Sunday.
