Iheanacho, who had his breakthrough season at City last term scoring 14 goals in 36 matches in all competitions , has been included in Samson Siasia's 35-man provisional squad for the Olympics billed for August.

The report claims that Manchester City have already informed the Nigeria Football Federation that Iheanacho will not be allowed to compete in Rio – and have even had a letter acknowledging their decision.

Iheanacho also earned his first full international caps in 2016 and Nigeria U-23s head coach Siasia is keen on taking the teenager to Rio.

However MEN insists that City have no intention of going back on their initial decision, and will make Iheanacho participate in pre-season under new boss Pep Guardiola.

Since the Olympics is not held during FIFA's international window, City are under no obligation to make Iheanacho available and have already spoken to him about the issue.

Iheanacho is set to be handed more first team opportunities under the new manager.

With Wilfried Bony expected to leave the club, he looks set to be elevated to Sergio Aguero’s understudy.

City’s summer preparations will already be impacted by players returning late from Euro 2016 and the Copa America, such as Aguero, Nicolas Otamendi, Raheem Sterling, Kevin de Bruyne and David Silva.
