Manchester City defeated Sevilla 3-1 away at the Estadio Ramon Sanchez on Tuesday night on Match Day 4 of the UEFA Champions League to qualify for the knockout stages with two games to spare in Group D.
Raheem Sterling scored the first goal of the match in the eighth minute, finding the far bottom corner after a pass from Fernandinho.
Fernandinho himself made it 2-0 just three minutes later.
The Brazilian nodded home after Wilfried Bony’s shot was parried to his path by Sevilla keeper, Rico.
Manuel Pellegrini’s side came close to a third goal moments later, as Jesus Navas cut inside from the right before trying his luck on goal, only for his effort to hit the far post.
Sevilla grew into the match as the half went on, and pulled a goal back on 25 minutes when skipper Coke found Benoit Tremoulinas with an inviting chipped pass, after beating Nicolas Otamendi before the Frenchman headed past City keeper Joe Hart.
The hosts almost found an equaliser moments later, as Hart kept out a Timothee Kolodziejczak header from a corner, before Vicente Iborra fired wide from the rebound.
City restored their two-goal cushion on 36 minutes, as Navas found Bony with an inviting cross, before the Ivorian striker fired past Rico.
After the break the visitors came close to a fourth goal, as Fernandinho forced a save from the Sevilla keeper, before Sevilla defender Adil Rami blocked a Sterling effort.
Sevilla controlled possession for large parts of the second half, but the visitors looked dangerous on the break as Yaya Toure dragged an effort wide, before Bony saw an effort blocked by Kolodziejczak.
Adil Rami saw his 90th minute header go wide, unable to reduce the scoreline.
City are on top with nine points after four games followed by Juventus with eight while Sevilla have three points. Borrusia Monchengladbach occupy the rear position with two points.Fastest Paying Betting Site in Nigeria: Grab your 140% First Time Deposit Bonus Now — www.Sportybet.Com Copyright © 2021 Completesports.com All rights reserved.
