English Premier League club Manchester United on Wednesday comfirmed on their website the signing of Sweden defender Victor Lindelof from Benfica in a four-year deal.

According to reports, the deal is believed to be around £31million.

The Red Devils confirmed a week ago they had agreed a fee with Benfica for Lindelof who jetted into the north west on Monday to complete the move.

Lindelof, 22, becomes Jose Mourinho's first signing since the transfer window opened.

Commenting on the completion of his move to United, Lindelof said: "I'm thrilled to join United. I'm keen to get started and contribute to the team's efforts to win more trophies."

United manager Mourinho said: "He is a very talented young player with a great future ahead of him at United."

Lindelof was a member of the Benfica squad that won the 2016-2017 topflight season.

He was also in the Swedish team that featured at the 2016 European Championship in France.
