Manchester United defender Eric Bailly has been ruled out for two months after sustaining a knee injury against Chelsea on Sunday.
The Cote d'Ivoire defender revealed the sad news on Instagram on Tuesday.
“I wanted to thank you for all the messages of support that I received since the injury! I hope to be able to play again for United and The Elephants before 2 months, God willing,” the former Villareal defender wrote on Instagram.
The news is a major setback for Jose Mourinho who has been under increased scrutiny after Sunday’s heavy defeat to his former club.
And the loss of Bailly who has made a promising start to his career in England leaves the Manchester United manager with just Rojo, Chris Smalling and Daley Blind as options to play in central defence.
Bailly is expected to now miss important Premier League matches against Arsenal, Everton and Tottenham.
He might also miss next year's Africa Cup of Nations, which kicks off in Gabon on 14 January 2017.
