Nigerian teenage sensation Ashinme Kigbu has become a subject of yet another transfer tussle between Manchester United and Chelsea as Manchester City battle to keep hold of him.
Kigbu is regarded as one of the most promising youngsters in the England after impressing for City’s youth sides, and most of the Premier League’s big sides are monitoring his situation with the title holders.
The defender, who turns 16 next month, started out at Manchester United’s academy before deciding to leave to focus on his education.
However, after catching the eye of City scouts while playing for Manchester Boys club, he joined City in 2012 and is highly regarded within the corridors of power at the Etihad.
City have yet to secure Kigbu on a scholarship deal and the player’s father Vincent Kigbu has revealed he has been contacted by a number of clubs about his son, but that the teenager is in no rush to make a decision on his long-term future.
“I have been contacted by a number of clubs and agents to ask about my son’s situation at Manchester City,” Kigbu Snr told ESPN FC. “Manchester United have told me they want him back, while there has also been interest from Chelsea and Tottenham.
“Ashinme is very happy at City, but they have yet to offer him a scholarship or pro deal as yet. It is flattering that other clubs are interested in Ashinme.”
