Sadio Mane says Liverpool are using last season’s narrow failure in the Champions League as inspiration to win silverware. The Reds were beaten in the European Cup final by Real Madrid in May after a thrilling ride during which they saw off Porto, Manchester City and Roma along the way.
Senegal international Mane scored in the final in Kiev but Jurgen Klopp’s side went down 3-1 as goalkeeper Loris Karius made two big mistakes and Gareth Bale hit a wonder-goal.
He says rather than trying to forget the near miss, Liverpool are using it as motivation as they look to win their first trophy since 2012 this season. “It was a great season,” he told BBC Sport. “Sadly, we didn’t win something but for this season it is motivation for us, to repeat it and try to go for it, and win it.”
Mane has been shortlisted for the 2018 African Footballer of the Year award, where he goes up against Liverpool team-mate Mohamed Salah as well as Medhi Benatia, Kalidou Koulibaly and Thomas Partey and he admits it a real source of pride to be in the running for the fourth time.
He added: “This is my fourth time to be nominated for the BBC African Footballer of the Year. “It’s something that will give me more motivation to keep working harder and harder, and hopefully I will win it one day.”Fastest Paying Betting Site in Nigeria: Grab your 140% First Time Deposit Bonus Now — www.Sportybet.Com Copyright © 2020 Completesports.com All rights reserved.
