Senegal forward Sadio Mane has revealed he bought 300 Liverpool jerseys and sent to Bambali, his village, ahead of Saturday’s Champions League final against holders Real Madrid in Kiev.
Liverpool will be gunning for their sixth Champions League title while Madrid are hoping to land a record 13th title.
“There are 2,000 in the village, they are all going to be watching,” Mane told mirror.co.uk. “Nobody in the village will work this day.
“My family still live in the village. My mum and my uncle. I bought 300 Liverpool jerseys to send to the people in the village, so the fans can wear them to watch the final.”
The 2018 World Cup bound forward recollected watching the epic 2005 Champions League final between Liverpool and AC Milan.
“I remember AC Milan v Liverpool. Three-nil down, then 3-3 and penalties. This was a big memory for me.
“I was watching in my village, Bambali. I remember being with my friend, a big friend of mine, and at 3-0 down he was completely out. He stopped watching until the end and ran like crazy to get away.
“Then he came back at the end and he could not believe it. Even to this day he can not believe it. He came back after the game when Liverpool had won!”
The former Southampton star said he never believed he would be playing in a Champions League final.
He expressed confidence that Liverpool will get the backing of neutral fans.
He said:“If you had said then I would be playing the final I would say it is something incredible in my life. Hopefully we are going to win.
“I cannot say ‘most of the world’, because Real Madrid fans will say otherwise. Maybe everyone who is not a Real Madrid, Everton, Man United or Man City fan! I think everyone else would like to see Liverpool win the trophy.
“I am just thinking it is incredible, not about pressure. Just happy and excited. We are in the best shape. There is no tiredness. We are in good shape,” he says.
“This kind of game does not happen all the time. It is one of the most important of a career.
“They have experience and are one of the best teams in the world, but we have quality and can beat any team in the world.”Copyright © 2020 Completesports.com All rights reserved.
