Manfredi Handed New Wigan Deal

Wigan Warriors have handed winger Dom Manfredi a new three-year contract after his impressive return from injury last season. The 25-year-old made a timely return for last term’s play-offs after nearly two years on the sidelines due to a serious knee injury, and scored two tries in the Betfred Super League Grand Final as Wigan got the better of Warrington 12-4 at Old Trafford.

Those two scores took Manfredi’s try tally beyond 50 for the Cherry and Whites and the club have taken the decision to hand him fresh terms, hot on the heels from securing the future of England skipper Sean O’Loughlin for the 2019 season. Manfredi was “over the moon” to commit his future to the Super League champions and Wigan executive director Kris Radlinski is also pleased to see him put pen to paper.

“It was great seeing Dom back in action at the back end of the 2018 season, doing what he does best,” Radlinski said. “Everyone knows his quality, and we’re delighted to see him commit his future to the club. “He’s been in some pretty dark places whilst he was injured and the way his return to action captured the imagination of the fans, players and staff was nothing short of remarkable.

“He’s worked incredibly hard in both a physical and mental sense to get himself back to playing Super League rugby once again. “If anything, his new deal is a reward for his endeavour, commitment and mental strength.”
