Maradona: Argentina Won’t Win World Cup

Argentina are second favourites to lift the World Cup after Brazil with most bookmakers, but former coach Diego Maradona doesn’t fancy their chances.

The South Americans started their competition with a win, beating Bosnia and Herzegovina 2-1, but their play looked laboured for much of the match.

Coach Alejandro Sabella has come in for some criticism for his approach, which many feel is antiquated.

And Maradona, who led Argentina to the 2010 World Cup where they beaten 4-0 by Germany in the quarter finals, believes this team won’t go all the way.

“The Argentina I saw against Bosnia isn’t a World Cup winning side,” Maradona said on Tyc Sports.

“I would like to be able to say something different. This team has potential, but so do Brazil, Germany and Holland.

“Lionel Messi will be a help but he can’t win every game on his own.”

Maradona captained Argentina’s World Cup winning side in 1986 but his reign as coach was something of a disappointment.

Sabella has been in charge since 2011 and has an impressive 63 percent winning percentage but he divides opinion in his homeland.

I thought the drug addict said earlier Argentina is superior to others.
