Marko Dismisses Honda Engine Concerns

Dr Helmut Marko believes Red Bull’s switch to Honda power units will make them a title contender in Formula 1 next year. The Milton Keynes-based outfit have decided to end their long-standing partnership with engine supplies Renault, believing the French manufacturer is incapable of building a power unit capable of matching Ferrari or Mercedes.

The move to Honda has raised a few eyebrows though with the Japanese outfit having recently ended a disastrous partnership with McLaren, who blamed Honda for providing an unreliable and lacklusture engine.

Despite their previous struggles, Red Bull advisors Marko says his team are excited by the switch and believe Honda will help them sustain a title challenge next year.

Asked if a title push is likely with Honda power, Marko said: “We will have the Honda engine next year and this project is very promising.

“I think we can fight for the championship next year.
“Honda is already ahead [of Renault], not only in qualifying but in the race too.”
