Nigerian striker Obafemi Martins has taken to social media platform Twitter to express his joy and has vowed to do more after helping his American club Seattle Sounders to win the Cascadia Cup on Sunday.
Martins scored his 13th goal in 17 matches in the early hours of Sunday as the Sounders defeated Vancouver Whitecaps 3-0 to win the Cascadia trophy.
Martins scored an 87th minute goal and assisted the first scored by Austrian, Andreas Ivanschitz, for his club in the rout. USA international Clint Dempsey was the assist maker in Martins’ goal.
The former Inter Milan, Newcastle United, Wolfsburg, Levante and Birmingham City striker has started in 16 of the 17 games and only came off the bench in one of his appearances.
“Very much enjoyed yesterday with the team and supporters.
“The best is yet to come. #SeattleRising #EBFG,” Martins wrote on his Twitter handle in the early hours of Monday.
The Sounders’ Major League Soccer next game next weekend is against Sporting Kansas City.
