Martins Ready For Seattle Sounders Contract Extension

Out-of-favour Super Eagles striker Obafemi Martins is poised to extend his contract with MLS side, Seattle Sounders.

Martins moved to the MLS from Spanish La Liga side, Levante, and has continued to score regularly for his team.

With Seattle Sounders, he tallied 17 goals and 12 assists in 43 appearances.

Thanks to his good performances, Martins who was not in Nigeria’s squad to the 2013 African Cup of Nations in South Africa and this summer’s World Cup in Brazil has earned an extension at Sounders according to on Thursday.

His agent, the website scooped, is in the United States to negotiate the renewal.

Martins’ current contract expires in 2015, and the intention is to extend it for two more years, bringing the wages to €3.7m plus €1m bonus.

Martins recently expressed his willingness to return to the Nigerian national team if he received an invitation.

Levante, Martins’ previous club is said to be interested in re-signing the former Inter Milan, Newcastle United and Wolfsburg striker on a one-year loan deal in the summer of 2015.
