Manchester United’s quest for a top four Premier League finish suffered a setback following their 1-0 loss to West Brom at the Hawthorns on Sunday.
The only goal of the game was scored by Salomon Randon after Juan Mata was sent off for a second yellow card in the 26th minute.
Manchester United had the shot on goal in the third minute through Anthony Martial whose shot was well saved by Ben Foster.
In the ninth minute, West Brom Craig Dawson had a chance only to mis-time his header.
Gareth McAuley came close with a header in the 23rd minute but it wouldn’t have counted as the flag was already up for offside.
A minute later Juan Mata was shown a yellow-card for blocking a quickly taken free-kick by West Brom.
And in the 26th minute, Mata was sent off after collecting his second caution for a foul on Darren Fletcher.
West Brom almost made their one-man advantage count on 27 minutes but Dawson saw his dipping volley drop just wide of the target.
In the 38th minute Stephane Sessegnon’s low drive was comfortably save by David De Gea.
United were close to opening the score in the 39th minute but McAuley denied Martial a shot on goal while Yacob was on hand to block a Jesse Lingard attempt.
In the 51st minute Marcus Rashford saw his effort deflected for a corner, which was well dealt with.
Lingard tried his luck in the 54th minute but his shot went narrowly over the bar.
West Brom finally made their man advantage count as Salomon Randon scored in the 67th minute off an assist from Sebastien Pocognoli.
In the 75th minute, Memphis Depay was brought on for Rashford.
Fosu-Mensah was introduced in the 83rd minute for Darmian.
But the changes failed to yield any positive result as West Brom held on to their lead to claim all three points.
The loss sees United drop to sixth in the league table while West Ham are now fifth.
On their part, West Brom now occupy the 11th spot.
