Maureen Mmadu: Falcons’ African Position Threatened!

By James Agberebi:

Former Nigeria women football national team player, Maureen Mmadu, has stated that the status of the Super Falcons as the best team in Africa is under threat, reports.

In a chat with, the Avaldsnes FC of Norway assistant coach, picked Cameroon and Equatorial Guinea as the Falcons biggest threats in Africa presently.

"I think our position as the best team in Africa is under threat and something has to be done. I think Cameroon and Equatorial Guinea are the two countries who are our biggest rivals now," Mmadu told

"They've been to the World Cup and have experience, so they don't want to give up anymore. Also, a team like Equatorial Guinea have experienced what it feels like to be African champions.

Mmadu urged the Nigeria Football Federation to source for sponsors for the women's league, tasking them to also organize top international friendly games for the Super Falcons in order to improve their FIFA rankings.

"The NFF should get good sponsors for the women league because there are talented players in it. And they should try and arrange top friendly games for the Falcons in order for them to improve in the monthly  FIFA rankings.

"Aside from international matches, playing enough top friendly games helps in improving a team's ranking," Mmadu reiterated.

She would also congratulate the Falconets for their 2-1 away win against Democratic Republic of Congo a Women's U20 World Cup qualifier.

"Congratulations to them. And I think it was good that they were able to avenge
for the Falcons, so I'm happy for them," Mmadu concluded.
