2013 African Cup of Nations’ hero Sunday Mba has described the Super Eagles ouster from next year’s edition of the African showpiece in Equatorial Guinea as shameful, reports completesportsnigeria.com
Needing a win to confirm their qualification, the Super Eagles could only draw 2-2 at the newly built Akwa Ibom Stadium in Uyo, thereby losing the second spot to Congo who beat Sudan 1-0 in Khartoum.
Mba who was dropped from the Eagles squad to the FIFA World Cup in Brazil wrote on his twitter page: “What a shame…hmm.”
South Africa finished the qualifying campaign on 12 points while Congo had 10 points with the Eagles finishing on eight points.
It would be recalled that the Eagles failed to qualify for the 2012 edition co-hosted by Equatorial Guinea and Gabon before eventually making it to last year’s edition which they won.
