By Adeboye Amosu: MC Alger head coach, Bernard Casoni, has praised MFM FC for their effort in Wednesday’s CAF Champions League First Round, first leg 2-1 win over his team, but warns their opponent that they are in for a tough fight in the reverse fixture, reports Completesportsnigeria.com.
The visitors went behind in the 36th minute when Chijoke Akuneto fired MFM ahead from the spot.
They however equalised through Amachi10 minutes after the break, and controlled the game afterwards, but were undone by a late Bashiru Monsuru strike which gave the hosts the win.
“I want to congratulate MFM for the win. They fought hard to win the game and their second goal was a fantastic one,” Casoni remarked after the game.
“But they won’t find things easy in the second leg, and I’m so sure we will beat them convincingly in Algiers.
“We are disappointed with the outcome of the game after putting in so much effort, but we will turn things around at home.”
Casoni’s charges struggled a bit in the first half under the hot afternoon sun at Agege Stadium Lagos but the French tactician played down the effect of the weather on his team’s performance.
“I don’t want to give any excuse for our defeat. The weather was different from what we are used to, but I think we coped well with it,” he said.
“We lost concentration towards the end and conceded a wonderful goal. It was tough to end the game like that.”
