McCarthy Making Good Progress

Everton boss Marco Silva says James McCarthy is in line to return to training before the end of the month. The Republic of Ireland international suffered a double leg break in January when challenging for the ball with Venezuelan striker Salomon Rondon and the midfielder has been on the road to recovery ever since.

McCarthy, who has been at Goodison Park since 2013, has been making steady progress during his rehabilitation and it was thought he could have returned to full fitness in time for the current international break.

However, the Glasgow-born star is still on the sidelines although Silva revealed a return to training before the end of September is on the cards.

He told the ECHO: “He is progressing well. We expect in the next weeks to start, slow-by-slow and step-by-step, working with the team.”

Everton are unbeaten from their first four Premier League matches of the season – winning one and drawing three – and the club return to domestic action at home to rock-bottom West Ham United on September 16.
