McDowell Facing Tour Card Struggle

McDowell Facing Tour Card Struggle

Graeme McDowell is on the verge of losing his PGA Tour card unless he can come up with a strong result at the Wyndham Championship. The Northern Irishman earned a two-year exemption following his victory in the OHL Classic at Mayakoba in 2015 but time is running out on that and his form has not good of late.

He is currently 143rd in the FedEx Cup standings and will need a top-10 finish at this week’s Wyndham Championship to ensure he gets in the top 125. The former US Open champion has not finished in the top-10 of any event since the Shriners Open last November.

However, despite his recent struggles, the 39-year-old is relaxed over his prospects and is not getting worked up over losing his card.

“I’m trying not to put too much pressure on myself. I feel like it’s not a do-or-die scenario for me,” he said.

“I feel if I was 25 years old without a European Tour card to fall back on, it would be a do-or-die scenario. Certainly trying to put the pressure off, if I don’t get myself into the top 125 it’s not the end of the world for me. I still feel like I can play a great schedule next season.”
