Rory McIlroy believes it can only be good for the game to have Tiger Woods back competing. The American has been plagued by injuries and off-course problems in recent years but seems to have come out the other side of his issues, and, after finishing in a tie for sixth at the Open Championship, recorded his best major finish since 2009 as he came second at the US PGA Championship.
McIlroy is of the generation that grew up idolising the former world number one and has been consistent in his support of him.
Both players are competing at this weekend’s Dell Technologies Championship, the second event of the FedEx Cup play-offs.
A win at TPC Boston would certainly boost Tiger’s hopes of a wildcard for next month’s Ryder Cup in France and McIlroy believes it is good for the game to have the 42-year-old back and competing for silverware.
“It’s great. It’s great for the game that Tiger is back,” McIlroy told reporters. “The run that he gave at Carnoustie and Bellerive, it was exciting. It was exciting to be a part of it at Carnoustie and it was exciting to sort of watch.
“I finished quite a bit ahead of the leaders at St Louis so it was – the last two majors of the year were very exciting. There was a lot of guys in there sort of vying for the tournament and Tiger was in there, which always adds an extra element.
“He just adds an extra element to the game that no one else can bring.”Fastest Paying Betting Site in Nigeria: Grab your 140% First Time Deposit Bonus Now — www.Sportybet.Com Copyright © 2021 Completesports.com All rights reserved.
