Jake McLeod says he is trying to stay focused after moving into a share of the Australian PGA Championship lead on day one. World number 161 McLeod, who knows a win Down Under this week would clinch his 2019 European Tour playing privileges, made six birdies in a bogey-free round to move alongside Matt Jager at the top of the leaderboard on -6.
The Australian, who is targeting his second professional win after breaking his duck at the AVJennings NSW Open earlier this month, was happy with his quick start to the tournament at Royal Pines Resort and is hoping to maintain his high standard for the rest of the event.
McLeod said: “I’ve been playing well. I’ve just got to keep on doing what I’ve been doing. Anything can happen. If one of the other guys wins, obviously they win. So I’ll just go do what I can do and see what happens at the end of it. “The whole game’s been pretty good and I’ve seen a new psychologist six months to a year ago now and the things we’ve been working on have been really good, so I think that’s definitely helped a lot.”
