Nampalys Mendy’s impressive display for Leicester City against Wolves appears to have ended Marseille’s chances of signing him for now. The 26-year-old was drafted into the Foxes side for Saturday’s opening home match of the season and the ex-Nice star did not let Claude Puel down, making three tackles and three interceptions while maintaining a pass success rate of almost 96 per cent.
Marseille were rumoured to be sniffing around the midfielder, who was sent on loan to Nice last season – three months before Puel took charge.
The French club are on the lookout for a replacement for Andre-Frank Zambo Anguissa, who joined Fulham earlier this month.
And the Europa League finalists appeared to receive some encouragement when Mendy was left out of the squad for last week’s 2-1 defeat at Manchester United, although that was because of a knock.
But after replacing Adrien Silva, Mendy now looks set to retain his hold on a first-team berth after dovetailing impressively with Wilfred Ndidi.
