Spanish LaLiga champions Barcelona defeated South Africa’s ABSA Premiership winners Mamelodi Sundowns 3-1 in the Mandela Centenary Cup on Wednesday.
The game, which was played at the FNB Stadium in Johannesburg, was part of events to commemorate what would have been late Nelson Mandela’s 100th birthday.
On parade for Barcelona were superstars like Lionel Messi, Andres Iniesta, Luis Suarez, Sergio Busquet, Gerard Pique, Ivan Rakitic among others.
Barcelona got off to the perfect start thanks to Ousmane Dembele in the third minute.
Suarez made it 2-0 in the 19th minute before Andres Gomes scored on 66 minutes to make it 3-0.
Sundowns managed to pull a goal back through Sibusiso Vilakazi in the 76th minute.
Barcelona will round off this season’s LaLiga campaign with a home game against Real Sociedad on Sunday.
Their unbeaten run was eventually ended following a 5-4 away loss to Levante in their penultimate league game of the season.
