Mexico captain Andres Guardado has called on officials to stop Neymar ‘s theatrics because the Brazil forward likes to exaggerate fouls.
Mexico will face the Selecao in a 2018 FIFA World Cup round of 16 encounter on Monday.
Neymar who plays for French club Paris Saint Germain had a penalty overturned by VAR in Brazil’s 2-0 defeat of Costa Rica in their group game after it was ruled that the 26-year-old went down too easily following a slight pull of his shirt.
And Gaurdado has backed referees and VAR officials to watch out for such incidents in the last 16 clash between the teams on Monday evening.
“We all know who Neymar is, but it isn’t up to me or my team to judge him, but the referees and FIFA,’ the midfielder told the Daily Mail .
“Now there’s VAR they need to watch his style and know how to manage it. We know he likes to exaggerate fouls, throw himself on the ground a lot, but that’s his style of play and the person who needs to stop that is the referee, not us.”
Brazil topped Group E with a win over Serbia, while Mexico finished runners-up in Group F behind Sweden.Copyright © 2020 Completesports.com All rights reserved.
