Former Chelsea misfit Romelu Lukaku was the star of the evening with a brace as Everton eliminated Guus Hiddink's team out of the English FA Cup at the quarter-finals stage on Saturday.
Super Eagles midfielder John Mikel Obi played from start to finish in Chelsea's 2-0 defeat in the hands of Everton at Goodison Park to exit the English FA Cup, The Blues' only remaining hope of a major title this season.
The game was arguably the standout fixture in the Round and Mikel Obi asserted himself well but the two teams ended the game with ten men apiece with red cards to Diego Costa and Gareth Barry.
Everton's Tom Cleverly produced the first shot at goal in the game with less than a minute played.
Romelu Lukaku was the target of a cross by Seamus Coleman just before the half hour mark but the Belgian international could not direct his header properly.
Diego Costa was close to breaking the deadlock in the 57th minute but his angled low cross after dribbling past his marker and Joel in Everton goal missed target.
Everton carved open a chance in the 67th minute, Gareth Barry the main creator.
Romelu Lukaku attempted to go round Thibaut Courtois with 18 minutes to go though his move was stopped by the Belgian.
Lukaku then broke the deadlock in the 78th minute when he danced his way inside the Chelsea box after going past four players and fired a low shot past Courtois to make it 1-0 for Everton at the expense of his former club.
It then became 2-0 for the Toffees when Lukaku grabbed his brace in the 82nd minute when he got to the end of a pass. The ball went pass the legs of Chelsea's keeper.
Diego Costa then got booked for the second time after another flashpoint with Barry who himself was yellow-carded. Barry soon joined Costa in receiving a second yellow card for a foul on Cesc Fabregas.
