Nigeria midfielder,Mikel Obi will be hoping he gets selected tonight against Stoke and in the process makes his 250th start since he joined Chelsea on June 3,2006.
Mikel, according to the club’s official website has played 249 games so far for the Blues, scoring a total of five goals with only one of the five coming in the English Premier League.
A tall, strong player,Mikel, who joined the Blues as an attacking midfielder following his scintillating displays in the 2005 FIFA U-20 World Cup in Holland is seen as a tactically astute player after he was converted to an attacking midfielder.
Despite the presence in the Blues squad of arguably the greatest holding midfielder of all time, Claude Makelele, Mikel still made over 40 appearances in his first season at Stamford Bridge, and he has maintained that level of consistency when it comes to playing time throughout his Chelsea career.
Often saving his best performances for the big occasion – the 2012 Champions League final being a case in point – Mikel has won every major honour at club level with the Blues. He has won a total of eight titles since he moved from Norwegian side,Lyn Oslo viz one UEFA Champions League, one UEFA Europa League, one English Premier League, one League Cup and four FA Cup titles.
He was also named Chelsea Young Player of the Year in 2007.
