Super Eagles skipper Mikel Obi got his Chinese Super League debut with Tianjin Teda off to a losing start following their 1-0 away loss to Shandong Luneng on Saturday, Completesportsnigeria.com reports.
After a keenly contested encounter which saw both sides failing to find the opener, two late goals from Binbin Liu (78 minutes) and Papiss Cisse (82 minutes) secured the win for Shandong Luneng.
Tianjin Teda are 14th in the 16-team Chinese top flight league.
Mikel played for 90 minutes in the game while newly signed Brown Ideye was not listed for Tianjin Teda.
In another Chinese Super League clash on Saturday, Odion Ighalo couldn’t prevent Changchun Yatai from losing 5-1 away to Shanghai SIPG FC.
Ighalo was in action for Changchun Yatai and played 90 minutes.
A hat-trick from Elkeson in the 43rd, 51st and 60th minutes and a goal each from Brazilian forward Hulk and Lei Wu in the 34th and 90th minutes respectively sealed the win for Shanghai SIPG.
Changchun Yatai’s only goal was scored by Xianodong Fan in the 26th minute.
The defeat means Changchun Yatai are bottom in the league.
