Mikel Obi: Disallowed Goal Was Key In Our Defeat

From Mumini Alao in Brasilia:

Super Eagles influential midfielder John Mikel Obi was left to rue what might have been if the team’s disallowed goal scored by Emmanuel Emenike was not ruled out.

Nigeria lost 2-0 against France to exit the 2014 World Cup but did so with the respect of the watching world who commended the athleticsm and qualities of the players.

UBA Super Savers

“I said before the game that it would be decided by little details and that was what happened, Mikel noted. “Our goal was legitimate but the referee ruled it was offside. That was a key moment that went against us. If the goal had stood, the outcome would probably have been different.

“Then, the two goals we conceded were disappointing because they came from set-pieces; corner kicks. We spoke a lot about that among ourselves that we needed to be fully concentrated at set-pieces. But it happened that we conceded both goals from corner kicks.

“Overall, I think we have had a good tournament. This is a young team and I believe we can achieve a lot more in the future. I hope Nigerians will not be too disappointed.”

We are dissappointed espercially with Mikel’s perfomance. So if this is your reason for losing out in this match, what would you say about our goal against Bosnia? I hope you watched Algeria and Germany match. Our midfield failed.

This is real what i and so many football fans where expecting. How on earth do you think a white man can ever allow a black man defeat some one from Europe? For me am not disappointed on the eagles. Lets come back and prepare for afcon2015 qualification

I hail Algerians.

@Chuks, what a bla bla comment. You represent the bitter Nigerian losers who want to win all matches. Your Old and Experienced Super Eagles with your world class coach that represented us in 2010 performed below average. Well done Coach Keshi and SE, we are proud of your achievements. Mikel, do not worry, with time and determination, you will overcome your temporary setbacks. God bless you all!

Nigerians are so funny! What do you expect from people who have worked hard to get to this point; are they the only team in the tournament?. Na person be Dangote o wey we dey hear im name o! Wetin be your own name? Try and make a name in your chosen career and stop criticising people that are already stars.
